FAQs
What makes you different from other studios?
What makes Studio Phoenix different from other aerial studios?
While we have great working relationships with other aerial studios in our area, each studio has its own unique vibe. Studio Phoenix is known for being warm, supportive, and welcoming. When we asked our students what most got out of their classes with us, three words were repeated over and over: confidence, fun, and sisterhood.
Our primary focus is on helping women to empower themselves in their everyday lives. And this feeling doesn't just exist within our walls. As you feel more and more empowered in your classes, you may find you carry yourself – and treat yourself! – a little differently in your everyday life. Acknowledging your growth each class, learning to appreciate your body for its hard work, and surrounding yourself with people who speak encouragement into your life can have powerful effects on your confidence!
We women learn to carry a sort of emotional armor out in the world... Studio Phoenix is a place where you can finally set that armor down, catch your breath, and just have fun. Laughter is good for the soul, and you'll hear a lot of it in our classes! When's the last time you set aside time for yourself and just played?
We don't do divas. Catty, mean girl behavior is not tolerated at Studio Phoenix. We lift each other up, and celebrate our differences. In fact, you'll often hear other classes clapping and cheering for each other as you walk down our hall! It's not uncommon for classmates to become good friends, meeting up outside of classes and attending each other's life events. For many of our students, this is the first place where they feel they can be themselves. Studio Phoenix truly is a sisterhood.

General FAQs
Where should I park?
We share our parking lot with the rest of the businesses located in the building. You are more than welcome to park in any open space you find in the front parking lot. If need be, additional parking is available in the rear lot behind the building. Check this page for a map!
Where can I find more information each class and and register?
Visit our Classes page on this site, or Contact Us today!
Do you only have pole dancing?
While pole dancing is what we're most known for, we also have lyra (aerial hoop), aerial silks, and aerial hammock classes, as well as floor-based classes. We round out your dance experience with classes like flexibility, strength-building, sexy heels or chair dance, or meditative experiences with sound baths.
I hate the attitudes I get at the gym. Is this studio like that too?
It is very important to us to foster an environment of support and encouragement. “I can’t” is not a part of our vocabulary, and we pride ourselves in being a drama-free environment. Mean girl and diva behavior is not tolerated at Studio Phoenix. We focus on the positive, and encourage each other in a loving way to succeed and accomplish our goals. Our classes are built to accommodate and modify for skill level as needed, so don't worry if athleticism doesn't come naturally to you. Pole Fundamentals is our beginner pole dancing class, and is designed for someone who has never danced on a pole before.
Can I bring my child or partner and have them wait in the lobby during class?
No, for safety and liability reasons, we do not allow children under the age of 18 at the studio. We also do not allow people who are not taking classes to be in the studio.
I'm plus-size. Will I feel like I don't fit in, in class?
This is a very common question, and we're always happy to reassure you! All ages, body types, and fitness levels are happily welcomed at Studio Phoenix! It's not uncommon to see us confidently walking around in sports bras and booty shorts... cellulite and rolls be darned! All of our instructors are trained in conditioning, to help their students reach their goals. If a move is not easily accessible for a specific body type, we can modify the move to meet what works best for your body. Our professional poles are mounted to the structure of the building, and are secure. We've had five dancers on one pole before with no problem! Trust us... when you start shimmying those hips and whipping that hair, you'll feel sexier than ever!
I am a trans woman... can I take classes?
Absolutely! Trans women are welcome in all of our classes. If you have not had bottom surgery, we recommend wearing a dance belt (available in most dance supply stores) or tucking underwear to help contain everything and protect yourself from injury. If you feel comfortable, we recommend a private conversation with your instructor to discuss anything she needs to know to safely spot you without causing pain to sensitive areas. The studio dress code is a sports bra and booty shorts at a minimum, although lower level students typically opt for t-shirts and shorts. If you feel more comfortable in a smaller group, we also have privates and semi-privates available. If you need assistance with brands, or have questions, please contact us and we'll be happy to help!
I am a non-binary person... can I take classes?
Our weekly group classes are open to those who identify as and/or present as women. If this applies to you, we welcome you to our group classes! Our private classes, semi-privates, workshops, parties, and events are open to all sexes.
Can I compete under the Studio Phoenix name?
Pole competitors who are enrolled in an autopay membership with Studio Phoenix and who enroll in our competitor package may list Studio Phoenix as their home studio. We want you to be prepared on stage, so our competition package includes a variety of benefits to get you stage-ready. Contact the studio for more information on our packages. While our competitors often bring home medals (and have even medalled at the National level), if you are looking to intensely train at a high level, we are likely not the studio for you. We will be happy to assist you in finding a studio that will better serve your needs.
What if I have disabilities?
Our owner has disabilities, and knows the frustration of attending a fitness class without modifications. Therefore, it's an important part of our teaching philosophy to find adaptations and modifications as needed. Instructors are trained to check in for any modification requests, and we strongly encourage you to communicate with your instructor about any limitations you have. If you feel group classes move at a pace that is difficult, we have private and semi-private classes available for more custom pacing. As long as you have been cleared by a doctor for exercise, we are excited to work with you in the unique way your body allows!

Pole Fundamentals FAQs
What is Pole Fundamentals?
Pole Fundamentals is our class for new pole dancers. Women of all fitness levels are welcome to take a one-time class, or sign up for the whole session! This class will teach you the basics of pole dancing.
What if I have no upper body strength?
We will be doing conditioning in each class to prepare your body for the upper levels! Our Pole Fundamentals classes are written with the true beginner in mind.
Why are the classes named different things?
We have several different classes (labelled A, B, C, etc) throughout the session. Each one teaches different moves, and a combo to tie everything together. Once you have completed all of these classes, you'll graduate to level 2! You do not have to take these classes in order.
Can I take Pole Fundamentals if I've been dancing for a while?
Absolutely! Pole Fundamentals is a great way to get back to the basics, and focus on the art of Pole Dancing. We just ask that you stick to the moves being taught in the class that week, so you don't intimidate our new polerinas!
What if I've been dancing for a while, and am checking out your studio to possibly transfer?
You may find Pole Fundamentals to be a bit redundant if you've been dancing for a while! Please contact us at [email protected] or call 847-701-4091 and we'll be happy to set up a complementary evaluation to see where you would fit in our 15+ levels of curriculum.
What should I wear?
In Pole Fundamentals you won't need a lot of exposed skin yet. However, you will find some moves easier if you have skin exposed on your lower legs and on your arms. Most of our students are comfortable in shorts and a tank top or T-shirt. We recommend wearing layers so you can adjust your clothing as your body warms up. Please do not wear lingerie or heels to Pole Fundamentals classes.
What should I bring?
Please bring a photo ID to your first class (so we can confirm age). Bring a yoga mat and a soft cloth to clean your pole. We recommend bringing a lidded water bottle as well!
Anything else I should know?
Please don't wear lotions or body oils on the day of class. It makes your skin dangerously slippery, and can leave behind oils for whoever is sharing your pole. Any metal hand or wrist jewelry will need to be removed as it scratches the poles. Sport watches with rubber/silicone bands are fine. Any dangling jewelry will also need to be removed as it is a safety hazard. Class starts on time, and anyone arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be permitted entry and will lose the class credits. Check our policies page for more helpful information.

Pole Fitness FAQs
This sounds like so much fun! How do I get started?
Our pole classes are structured as 10-week sessions. If you would like to take a sample class before you commit, you can register for and attend a Pole Fundamentals class. One-time Pole Fundamentals classes cost $40 or you can use our Intro Package of 4 classes for $100 (new students only). Ready to start a session right away? Register for classes here, or contact us for assistance.
What should I wear for my first pole class?
For your first class, you are welcome to wear a t-shirt and shorts or yoga pants. All pole classes will be barefoot. Please DO NOT wear lotion the day of class... it makes your skin slippery, and leaves residue on the poles. Please make sure your clothing has appropriate coverage. Check our policies page for more helpful information.
Should I bring water?
Yes! As with all exercise programs, it is vital to stay hydrated. We have water available for purchase if you forget yours.
I have no upper body strength. Can I still try this class?
As the owner Jenni will happily tell you, she couldn’t climb the rope in gym class, and was almost always picked last for sports teams. Come as you are! We will build your strength up naturally and slowly.
Will I learn how to strip?
Because pole fitness has its roots in various dance forms, including exotic dance, this is a common misconception. While the tone of many dancers is sensual, our Pole Fitness classes do not include stripping.
Can I wear heels to dance?
Absolutely! Please use heels that are used for indoor use only, and that will not leave marks on the floors. When learning tricks, we will be barefoot for safety.
Is it dangerous?
Pole Fitness can definitely be dangerous. Our certified instructors are trained in spotting and safety. We have the highest grade safety mats, and ensure that you know exactly how to execute a move (and have the physical strength to do it) before you attempt it. Additionally, all Studio Phoenix employees are required to have CPR and First Aid certification.
My work shift changes frequently, or I am out of town for work frequently… can you accommodate my schedule?
If you are unable to attend class regularly because of a work/school scheduling conflict (wanting to take a nap on the couch does not count ;) ), we would be more than happy to work with you on a unique schedule that meets your needs. Please contact us for more information!
I am nervous about how my body looks. I just don’t feel sexy.
When most of us first walked through the door, we felt the exact same way. Part of our job as instructors is to help you tap into that self-confidence you are missing! As you watch your body change each week, and are amazed at the things it can do, you will find a whole new respect for yourself. Our students are all shapes, sizes, and athletic abilities. Check out our Reviews page for a few testimonials from our students, and know that we welcome you to come as you are!
Is there a weight limit on your poles?
While some pole studios do have a weight limit (based on the type of pole or the way it's mounted), our poles are mounted to the structure, and do not have a limit. We have had five dancers on one pole before, with no problem. You can trust your pole to hold you!
I just moved to the area and was enrolled in pole classes before... what level should I sign up for?
Welcome! Contact us and we will be happy to set up a COMPLIMENTARY evaluation for you! One of our senior instructors will work with you to determine the level of our curriculum that best meets your needs.
Can I drop in to a Pole Fitness class?
Due to the way our curriculum builds your strength for upcoming moves, we typically do not allow drop-ins for Pole Fitness classes. However, if you are currently enrolled at another studio, just moved to the area, or are visiting from out of town, contact us and we can work with you! If you have not been enrolled in Pole Fitness classes, you may take one of our one-time Pole Fundamentals classes!
I’m a man who is interested in Pole classes... can I join your classes?
We're so happy you're exploring pole dance! At this time, Studio Phoenix group classes are for women and those who identify as women. However, we do teach private and semi-private lessons to all sexes. If you are a man who is interested in Pole Fitness classes, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you!

Liquid Motion FAQs
What is Liquid Motion®?
Liquid Motion® is a method and style of movement that teaches total acceptance of one's physical and mental self. Our program provides the tools to explore the body's natural movement, build self-confidence, and understand the body on a higher physical and mental level. This program teaches you how to achieve seamless, natural movement quality by applying basic dance theory, fitness, conditioning exercises, and sensual movement exploration.
I have never taken Liquid Motion® or Pole Fitness. Can I still take this class?
Yes! This class is all about floorwork, and poles are not involved. It will benefit your dance movement whether or not you are a pole dancer.
I do not move smoothly. Can I still take this class?
Yes! This class will teach you how to move in a fluid, dare we say LIQUID, way. Beginners welcome!
Do I need to move in a "sexy" way to take this class?
The terms "sensual" and "sexual" are often interchanged in our society. Liquid Motion taps into *sensual* movement... by that we mean being aware of the senses and moving with intention. However, the movement in itself is not sexual. We will teach you the movement, and each dancer can translate that however she would like!
What should I wear?
Lots of layers! Knee pads are REQUIRED for this class. We sell Mighty Grip gel knee pads for $30 (these are made for pole dancers, so there is grip to assist with certain pole moves), or you may bring your own. You will want layers to cover all of your skin... we recommend thin layers since it will get warm in the classroom! Movement across the floor is much easier with cloth than skin.
Are there different levels? Will I be behind my class when I join?
There are different levels to Liquid Motion®. Students are required to complete level 1 to take level 2. However, you may drop in to a level 1 class at any time, and you will not be behind. We will make sure you have the skills you need to join us!
What should I bring to class?
A bottle of water, and a yoga mat. Layers as listed above, and knee pads. And an open mind! Liquid Motion® is unlike any class you've taken. It will challenge you physically and mentally! You are also welcome to bring a notepad to take notes!

Additionally, all Studio Phoenix employees are required to have CPR and First Aid certification. Of course a major factor in your safety is yourself! Please make sure you are listening to your instructor, and not doing anything you have not been cleared to do!
Are there any rules I should know before starting silks or hammocks?
Yes! Any students refusing to follow these rules will be dismissed from class without refund: Armpits, and waist to calves must be covered. Deodorant must be freshly applied. No sticky grip aids may be used. Anything that could snag the fabric must be removed or covered... including metal jewelry, exposed zippers, ragged fingernails/toenails, etc.

Should I bring water?
Yes! As with all exercise programs, it is vital to stay hydrated. We have water available for purchase if you forget yours.

Private Party FAQs
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to reserve your date.
Is there a minimum amount of people you require for a private party?
Our party packages do have a minimum amount, but smaller parties are more than welcome! You'll just need to pay the minimum fee (the per person rate x the minimum amount).
How large of a party can you accommodate?
We have quoted for parties as high as 72 guests! Contact us and we will create an estimate just for you. If you are expecting more than 15 people at your event, please let us know when booking so we can adjust time/pricing, and book as far in advance as possible!
Can we use a Groupon for a party?
No, our Groupon is for our Pole Fundamentals class, which is not open to group events, and is different from our parties. Trust us, our parties are much more geared for a fun group event!
What should we wear?
For Pole Parties, comfortable workout clothes are best, as we'll be moving around quite a bit. Shorts are preferable, but capris work too! For Lap Dance parties, wear something that allows you to move, but makes you feel sexy! We will be barefoot for all classes. For Aerial Yoga, armpits to calves must be covered, and we will be barefoot for class.
What should we bring to class?
Each person should bring a bottle of water. Lap Dance class attendees should also bring a men's button down shirt and a tie. If you'd like to learn a few clothing removal tricks, bring an extra shirt, extra bottoms (stretchy shorts or loose pants), and stockings or over-the-knee socks.
Can we bring food?
Yes, you are welcome to bring food! Please let us know in advance so we know to have a table set up. Food is not allowed in the classrooms.
Can we bring alcohol?
For safety and insurance reasons, we cannot allow alcohol on the premises, and cannot allow anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs to participate. Attendees who are under the influence will not be allowed to participate and will not be refunded. Trust us, you'll have plenty of fun without it! If your instructor suspects your party is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the party will be canceled without refund.
My grandma/pregnant friend is coming with us for the day... can she just watch?
Female guests who are unable to dance for medical reasons are welcome to watch. All attendees (whether participating or watching) must sign a waiver, and must pay for a spot, regardless of level of participation.
Can my guy friend come?
All sexes are welcome to join our private parties as long as they are participating.
Can we take pictures/videos?
Absolutely! As long as you do not film the instructor's directions, or delay the class. If you are posting it, it is your responsibility to make sure everyone in the photo gives permission. Please tag @studiophoenixah and hashtag #studiophoenix so we can join in the fun!
Our instructor was great! Can we tip her?
Tips are always appreciated! Our instructors work hard to make sure you have an unforgettable time! If you had fun, we'd also love a shout-out on ratings sites like Yelp or The Knot.
Can we stay longer to open presents or get ready for our night out?
Yes! You can rent extra time in half-hour increments... just ask our representative when she sets up your party! If your party lingers past your scheduled end time, the credit card on file will be charged for this extra half hour. Please be respectful of time slots for all of our parties!
How late can our party run?
Parties ending after 10:00pm will incur an additional $50 fee. Parties must end by 11:00pm.
